Day of the Dead Portland

by Lillie on October 30, 2012

People typically celebrate life cycle events like births, coming-of-age milestones, and deaths at synagogues, mosques, churches, and other houses of worship.

As a spirit filled community center that was born out of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, we are beginning to offer opportunities to celebrate these events.  Co-sponsored by TaborSpace, Day of the Dead Portland is the first such one and we hope you will join us.

Our co-organizers describe Day of the Dead:

Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is celebrated on November 1st throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. Family and friends gather celebrate loved ones who have died. Altars are created with marigolds, photos, sugar skulls, candles and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. It is an occasion to laugh, cry and bask in the memories of those who have gone before.

Like all TaborSpace events, Day of the Dead Portland will be radically inclusive and radically welcoming.  No matter what your faith tradition is – and even if you don’t have one – you are welcome, wanted, and needed.
